Is this Frankenstrat bike bothering you?

just few days ago i posted about EVH’s Frankenstrat and today i found that one of my friend is Eddie’s big fan (he’s not a guitarist, he’s a keyboardist). i never knew that until i saw him with his motorbike today. An EVH frankenstrat theme motorcycle and it’s cute!. here I share its pic:

    am I right or what?
i saw a lot of people have similar ideas about getting inspired by their idols. Actually it’s the best idea so far in learning guitar. get inspired by your favorite guitarists. you can start with almost everything and every element of this “get inspired” idea will help you in finding your guitar playing identity. surely you know what I’m talking about now isn’t about being a copycat, while actually it is fun when we can do our guitar idol licks and show them off šŸ˜€

well, since I’m a guitar learner, and i guess I’m a novice, so there’s nothing more i can talk about this getting inspired idea. all i can do is sharing more love about guitars. I love this Frankenstrat idea, have a good day and keep playing guitar!

    did you know?
the Eddie Van Halen’s frankenstrat guitar paint and finish was inspired by aĀ  red Schwinn bicycle paint. A quote from Eddie, he said “The Schwinn bicycle paint gives it pop.”

  • The standard Guitar tuning, EADGBE tuning

The standard Guitar tuning, EADGBE tuning

The standard Guitar tunings assign the string pitches as E, A, D, G, B, and high E to the open strings of guitars. By convention, the notes are ordered from lowest to highest. These particular pitches are used by the majority of guitarists. why? Standard Guitar tuning made our left hand moves easily to play scales and chords with simple fingering logic.is there the best way of tuning your guitar in standard tuning? yes, and probably there are several ways in tuning your guitar. basically EADGBE tuning notes are from low-to-high note order, WHILE the guitar strings order starts from the thinnest string as first string, so we can see them like this:- 1st String is high E note(e), which its Scientific pitch notation is E4 and its frequency is 329.63 Hz
    – 2nd StringĀ  isĀ  B note (B), which its Scientific pitch notation is B3 and its frequency is 246.94 Hz
    – 3rd StringĀ  is G note (G), which its Scientific pitch notation is G3 and its frequency is 196.00 Hz
    – 4th StringĀ  is D note (D), which its Scientific pitch notation isĀ  D3 and its frequency is 146.83 Hz
    – 5th StringĀ  isĀ A note (A), which its Scientific pitch notation isĀ  A2 and its frequency is 110.00 Hz
    – 6th String is low E note (E), which its Scientific pitch notation isĀ  E2 and its frequency is 82.41 Hznow you see that you can get chromatic note progression from the low E open string on the 6th string, move forward from first fret to fourth fret in linear order, then it goes to the A note on open 5th string, then move linearly along the frets, to the next strings. you will find on the 3rd string that the fourth fret represent the open 2nd string note and.. bla..(this will be a long one, so..)

    into conclusion!
tuning your guitar in standard tuning can be achieved by:
    – the open 1st string note represents the fifth fret’s note on the 2nd string
    – the open 2nd string note represents the fourth fret’s note on the 3rd string
    – the open 3rd string note represents the fifth fret’s note on the 4th string
    – the open 4th string note represents the fifth fret’s note on the 5th string
    – the open 5th string note represents the fifth fret’s note on the 6th string

so, all you have to do is getting at least one of the string in the right-tuned note, then you can refine the other strings notes.

how to get the right note for tuning? first of all, our ears are the main tuning instrument. based on your hearing you can get the note references from almost any audible sources, such as mp3, keyboards, tuning forks, even from your friends’ tuned guitar. we might/may/must(?) need to get used to the notes sound since tuned guitar is the first step of any guitar learning. an online guitar tuner on this blog will be a big and fast help in tuning your guitar with audible notes. go to this page.

what if there are no decent audible source for the references in tuning guitar? haha, that’s easy question. what works for me is a built-in tuner on my BOSS GT-8 digital effects pedal, and i bought BOSS Chromatic Tuner TU-3 for my analog pedals chain (i haven’t made any pedalboard yet, still figuring out about the best chain order for my analog pedals).

yep, this helps my tuning section before i start my gigs. well i didn’t exactly buy BOSS Chromatic Tuner TU-3. it was a good deal actually, i exchanged my guitar for some cash plus this BOSS Chromatic Tuner TU-3. here i share few pics of it.

so is there any special things for this boss Chromatic Tuner TU-3? well, let me put it in simple way. for me there are some needs, those are the need for accuracy, durability, and versatility. BOSS Chromatic Tuner TU-3 has them. you should have one.

  • Have You Ever Been Through The Never?

Have You Ever Been Through The Never?

Yes, Metallica will take you there. It’s 2013 and it is the time for everyone to experience through the never with +MetallicaĀ . this super heavy-metal band had made a real existence to its fans throughout the world with this movie. What we will see is actually a thriller concert film, which is new for me. the movie title itself is from the song with the same titleĀ  “Through the Never” from Metallica’s black album in 1991.

the movie’s early reviews have been positive. it has Rotten Tomatoes 82% fresh rating, the consensus states: “Imaginatively shot and edited, Metallica Through the Never is an electrifying, immersive concert film, though its fictional sequences are slightly less assured.” while Peter Travers of Rolling Stone has his opinion “a full-throttle expression of rock & roll anarchy”, and encouraged readers not to understand the plot, but to “live” it. Chris Tilly of IGN and Peter Rugg of The Village Voice stated a positive review as well. it is a groundbreaking 3-D motion picture and an electrifying, immersive concert film, something like a gigantic spectacle, a virtual-reality experience for every single fan of Metallica all over the world. in my opinion, this is the best Metallica’s achievement so far, and since Metallica is one of my favorites, there will be no spoilers here. you can watch the trailer, though.

so again, have you ever been through the never?

Still Halloween and even scarier, the Frankenstrat

while famous frankentele is Steve Morse‘s, the Frankenstrat is Eddie Van Halen’s creation. The name itself comes from the combination of Frankenstein name and Stratocaster, a famous Fender guitar model. for your information it is a american national treasure, “Frankenstrat” copy can be found at Washington D.C.’s American History Museum.

The Frankenstrat is Van Halen’s effort in combining the Fender appearance with classic Gibson guitar tonality. It was Gibson PAF humbucking bridge pickup, Floyd Rose tremolo and chrome hardware installed on ash Stratocaster body, maple neck and fretboard. Eddie painted it several times, and the now famous color combination is red body with white and black stripes.

    the Frankenstrat

what he did is a heavy-modification. The Frankenstrat neck was continually being changed over times. and The first bridge was ’58 Fender tremolo then he changed it to Floyd Rose bridges. The placement of the 1971 quarter was a spontaneous addition when it was recruited to keep the Floyd Rose bridge flush on the body. even he took truck reflectors and put them at the rear of the body just for his fun moments, so is an eye hook to secure the straps.

now, is this scary enough for your Halloween?

here i share guitarworldvideos about van halen’s frankenstrat, a deep intimacy of van halen’s interview about it (go here for fender stratocaster highway one review)

  • it’s Halloween, and it is Frankentele

it’s Halloween, and it is Frankentele

you know what time it is and there’s nothing more interesting than a Frankentele. as you knew that telecaster gained incredible fans all over the world because its sound and its simplicity. there are lots of people want to have their own telecaster based on their personal ideas. simply taking telecasters into new genre without disrespecting its history. it’s an amazing story, seeing what telecasters had been through. and i really want to start with the famous one, Steve Morse’sĀ  Frankenstein telecaster. we know who Frankenstein is as well as we know what a telecaster is.

from what i got from musicradar’s article about frankentele (you can read the details by following the link), it is really a constant revision and improvement guitar. Stratocaster neck attached into a Fender Telecaster body, installed Gibson Tune-o-matic bridge, a set of Gibson frets and a 12-string tailpiece, also a group of pickups were Steve Morse’s ideas on how to build a frankentele. you can also get info from Steve Morse’s site about his frankenstein telecaster.

well, are frankenteles scary enough for your Halloween? you should have one actually. telecaster inspires lots of musicians and i think I’ll build one of my own frankentele, although my spalted maple tele is a branded franken tele, too with great sound and craftsmanship. there are best guitar parts around and i REALLY want to put them on telecaster model and see what happen.. is an annoying curiosity though..

Marshall MS-2, cute little hard rock served on your desk

This Marshall MS-2 sounds louder than you think. yes, it’s a mini-amps product by +Marshall AmplificationĀ and you can have much fun with this. I bought this new and it’s made by Marshall manufacture in Vietnam. Marshall Amplification is a British company, well-known as one of the best guitar amps builders. You may have the big ones, but for this Marshall MS2 Micro Amp, I’d say this is my good stuff.one thing i like about Marshall Amps is that they are being honest about the guitar tones. they will amplify anything that came out from any kind of guitar honestly. if your guitar has ugly sound (like my lovely first electric guitar), then Marshall amps will take that ugly tone into the loudest sound you’ve ever heard.Ā  Actually it’s a real good thing, if you want to buy a new guitar, please consider to hear it through Marshall Amps. (hear check sound: marshall ms-2 here)here few pictures i made:

quite nice isn’t it? here i shared a video about Marshall MS 2, i recorded it with digital camera SONY cybershot. I’m not sure you will get significant differences between each sound of my guitars, because it’s like nearly porn poor video. but here it is:

well, what do you think about this Marshall MS2 Micro Amp?
